Child Support

PDF Print

Child support is established using a mathematical formula created by the Minnesota Legislature. The formula is computerized; various numbers are plugged into the program and a number is determined that considers all of the relevant factors. Some of these factors include: the earnings of each parent, any special needs of the child, child care costs necessary for a parent to work, and the amount of time each parent has the child in their care. This issue is largely factual in nature, and the amount paid or received is established by a set formula.

Child support is typically ordered during a child custody proceeding. Changes in level of income or employment status may affect the originally determined level of support. If you need help with Minnesota child support orders, including modifications or enforcements, please contact me. I look forward to assisting you.
